ONLY CHILD (2022) - dir. Andy Ames, 70 minutes

ONLY CHILD follows the journey taken by an adoptee from Dublin, who sets out to find her birth mother with only her mother's name and her town of birth in hand. The film chronicles her 20-year journey navigating the hypocrisy of a society that prohibited access to birth control while condemning unwed mothers and their children, leading her to reframe her identity in light of what - and who - she finds.

ONLY CHILD is a rare documentary, in that it presents a case study from a dark period in Ireland's past, but manages to find joy and comfort in the connections it uncovers.
